On June 6, 2013 BCS was awarded the S. Whitney Landon Award at the Turrell Luncheon for Children. The award, presented by the Turrell Fund is given annually to early childhood programs that are exemplary models of direct service delivery to young children and their families that are intentionally designed and implemented in partnership with other programs and early childhood professionals within the community. The Turrell Fund recognizes, applauds and seeks to promote early childhood programs that understand and utilize the resources within the broader early childhood system in Vermont, including those resources that foster and support multi-generational relationships, to have a long term positive impact on the well being of the children and families served.
The award, which included a $15,000 grant, was especially meaningful, because this year the Turrell Fund asked each Building Bright Futures Regional Council to nominate a program of excellence from their region. BCS was proud to receive the award and even prouder to have the support of our peers in the community- the people who help us do what we do every day.
The Turrell Fund is a family foundation based in New Jersey that makes grants in the state of Vermont and the four northern counties of New Jersey. In 1995, after the death of S. Whitney Landon, a long-time Turrell trustee, an award was established in his memory for one exemplary program for children ages birth to six in Vermont and New Jersey.
